On day, February 10, 2019, Jackie Ephesus Harris, loving husband and father of seven children, passed into eternal rest at age 64 after a courageous battle with diabetes. Jackie E. Harris was born on January 23, 1955 in Homerville, Georgia to the late Ephesus and Willie May (Singleton) Harris and step mom, Aretha Harris. He married Lenore Denise (Spencer) Harris on September 22, 1974 and literally spent the rest of his life with her.
Jackie Harris grew up in Waycross, Georgia and shortly after graduating high school, he was employed by CSX Railroad in Waycross, Georgia. He was also worked with the Ware County School department as a custodian and paraprofessional. At heart, Jackie had a passion to see the love of God revealed in the lives of people, so his various occupations were all short lived. He spent a large part of his adult life as a musician playing for various churches in and around the region of Waycross, Georgia until he was called to the ministry, as a pastor. God graced Jackie with the privilege and opportunity to pastor three wonderful churches.
His first assignment as a pastor was in 1989 at Taylor Chapel in Millwood, Georgia (aka the Forks). Pastor Harris, affectionately known as Rev, fell in love with that church and that community. He led the Taylor Chapel family for approximately 5 years. He trusted God completely as he listened for God’s instructions daily. He was then called to pastor Antioch Baptist Church in Homerville, Georgia.
He pastored Antioch Baptist Church for 25 years. Pastor Harris was a great example of a man that loved God and loved people, and there is no doubt that he made a difference in the many lives he touched. While still pastoring Antioch Baptist Church, the Lord led Pastor Harris to plant Just Right Fellowship Church in Waycross, Georgia in 2006. He served God and Just Right Fellowship faithfully as Senior Pastor until his health began to decline. Despite his severe illness, he still preached and sang in the pulpit until he could no longer do so.
Pastor Harris is survived by his wife and seven children: Lenore Denise Harris (wife of 44 years) and their children: Devin L. Spencer (oldest son married to Hecdelyn Spencer), Jackie L. Harris (married to Senetra Harris), Jeron A. Harris (married to Catherine Harris), Tavorris D. White (married to Jamel White), Ashanti L. Harris, April S. Ogudugu (married to Richard Ogudugu) and Kaliah L. Collins (married to Elijah Collins) and his God-son (Antwione Peterson). Pastor Harris had 23 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws. He also had six siblings whom he dearly loved: Coley Thomas (deceased), Larry Thomas (deceased), Leon Thomas (deceased), Tonie Harris, Connie (Harris) Robinson (married to Bradley Robinson) and Reginald Harris (married to Doreatha-deceased).
