Robert Leonard Gordon was born on May 9, 1955 in Waycross Georgia as the youngest child to the union of Alvin Gordon, Jr. and the late Adrienne Riley Gordon. There he spent his formative years growing and maturing into a young man. He attended Waycross High School where he graduated as part of the Class of 1973. He played the position of Defensive Tackle on the Waycross High Bulldogs football team.
At a young age, he was baptized and joined Friendship Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Frank Martin. As a child, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.
In 1978, Robert married his loving wife, Brenda Brown. They shared over 40 years together and raised their sons Ardre and Robert Michael. In 1987, Robert relocated his family to Stone Mountain, Georgia to continue his career with CSX Railroad. He held various positions over the years in the Car, Track and
Signal departments. He retired from the Railroad in 2012 after 39 years of service. The family continues their worship with Fairfield Baptist church Lithonia, Georgia under the leadership of Pastor Michael Benton.
Robert loved fishing with his Dad, riding motorcycles and driving sports cars. He was a man of few words but certainly a man of integrity and a loving heart. Some knew him as Robert, Robby, Rob, Flash or RL. We knew him as Brenda’s husband, Dre and Mike’s dad, Chris’ granddad, Mr. Alvin and Ms.
Betty’s son, and Kathy and Ricky’s brother and an uncle, cousin and in-law to many. Rob was truly loved by his family.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Adrienne Riley Gordon and grandparents, Alvin Gordon, Sr. and Julia Gordon; mother- in- law, Vernelle McGauley Brown.
Robert will be lovely remembered by his wife, Brenda Brown Gordon; sons Ardre Gordon and Robert Michael Gordon (Quiana), grandson Christopher Gordon all of Stone Mountain, Georgia; father Alvin Gordon, Jr. (Betty); sister Kathy Gordon Regulus (Ronald); brother Alvin R.
